CBCS complaint by Martwagstaff
I have had several dealings with CBCS. The first was when they tried to colect money from me on behalf of a medical service provider who said I owed money to them after they had repeatedly failed to bill my insurance company. The second was when my husband received action from then on behalf of Verizon for a service that he terminated because Verizon sold him a service that they could not provide in his area.

While it is easy to blame the medical service provider and Verizon, CBCS should also be held to account. It seems that they have no scruples when falsely trying to extract money from wronged individuals. Shouldn't they check their facts? Also can anyone tell me what I should do about a bad credit report beacuse of them?

Accounts are placed in collections by the original service/product provider. THEY placed the account in collections due to you not handling your business.

Hospitals and medical centers bill your insurance as a COURTESY. It is NOT their responsibility. They could just as easily give you a bill and tell you to contact your insurance. You didn't take care of your debt and now you're unwilling to take care of it? You sound like a deadbeat.

CBCS does NOT collect on past statute debts. They are canceled regularly if they are past the date allowed by law to collect on.

If the debt was paid it is YOUR responsibility to follow up on it, either with the original party or provide the necessary information to the collection agency. If you don't handle your business stop whining.

Accounts are placed for collections by creditors to third party collections. If you have disputed it with the creditor the collection agency probably doesn't have those records. So you say "false debt collections", but you should be really blaming the original creditor if they are charging for incorrect charges.

No do not ever call back CBCS. This comapny makes it's money by trying to collect old debts that have gone beyond the seven year statute of limitations. If you even acknowlege who you are to them. They can legaly begin the collection process again and ruin your credit. That is why they will not say who they are looking for. You have to tell them your name. And once you have given them any indentifying information they can legaly pin you with the old debt. Even if it is twenty years old. This company makes it's money by taking an advantage in a loophole in the credit refor bill's enacted by George Bush.. Just another way he is screwing the American people in favor of big buisness.. Dont believe me? Just google for "old debt collection"..

This company was harassing me about tuition that I had paid to my school over a year ago. I called my school to confirm payment and they told me they would fax over my proof of payment (from a year ago) to cbcs to clear my account. Apparentley this wasn't done soon enough and i received another harassing call the next day. When I told the woman my school was faxing over the info, she kept asking me how I wanted to pay for it today. I repeatedly told her I had paid the debt and wasn't going to pay it again and for her to contact my school until she receives the proof of payment. She then told me she was going to note in my account a refusal to pay!!!!! Why would I pay something that has already been paid? Not to mention they are extremely rude and don't care about anything you say. Finally my school called them to clear the account and I never have to hear from this harassing company again.

I work for cbcs and this is nothing new, a lot of the hospitals we collect for screw people in this way, I have also heard similar things with phone co's. Keep in mind though for every innocent person like you there is 20 jerks that just try to take services and not pay for them. Call and ask if they have already credit reported you, they should tell you. if they havn't tell them you would like to dispute the charges and this will buy you a little time.
